Experience some of the most beautiful wilderness scenery on the frozen Takhini River, a historic stretch of the Yukon Quest trail. Learn the basics of mushing or, if you’d rather ride, just let your guides know. Suitable for participants from 2 to 86 years. This is truly a great trip for anyone (though babies tend to fall asleep!). Tour duration is approximately three hours with a maximum of 2-hour trail time.You'll ride in shared teams with two people to a sled.

On this half-day dog sledding adventure, sled across a frozen river topped with untouched snow in the Takhini Valley. You will be surrounded by low-lying mountain ranges where the only sound you hear is your dog team, running at a modest pace as they love to do. Enjoy beautiful, scenic and historic trails, with great photo opportunities.

Upon arrival, sign a mandatory waiver and get dressed with proper winter gear. Afterwards, your trained and certified guide will teach you the basics of mushing, how to drive your sled, how to balance, and how to steer and brake. Then, take to the wilderness by a team of very friendly, dedicated Alaskan Huskies. You'll dog-sled on the river or trails (2-hour trail time maximum). After the tour, return the clothes and round up with a hot chocolate, coffee, and homemade brownie.

Winter gear, including parka, snow pants, warm boots and mitts are included. Hand and foot warmers, if required. Travel in a small group, with a maximum of 4 sleds per guide, to give you the best possible experience.

Please note: Two people booked to a sled. Surcharge for single sled request - please inquiry for more details. Groups are limited to four sleds per outing. Please book as early as possible, to ensure that you get a space.

Let your guide take care of all the logistics for you. This trip is very easy and user friendly, and can accommodate small children as well. Dogs are welcome, as they love to paddle! If you don't have a dog, your guide has many Alaskan huskies that would love to go.

Enjoy a leisurely paddle on the Takhini or Yukon River with an experienced canoe guide. Watch for beaver, elk or deer along the banks of the river. Relax, take photos and listen to your guide tell stories about life in the Yukon and what it's like to live in the North all year long. 

Choose between a 9am or 1pm tour start time. Your half-day tour is approximately 2 to 3 hour long. After arriving at the ranch, meet your guide and their friendly Alaskan huskies. You'll either depart from the ranch or will drive to a drop-in further up the river, depending on weather and conditions on the river.

Real hands on experience

Day One: (Sunday or Thursday) arrival day
We will pick you up at the airport and bring you to our Lodge located in the Yukon Wilderness.
Check in the room,(shared bathrooms) introduction to our off the grid life style and our dogs. Handing out cold weather clothing.

Night One:
Cozy set up on our deck for guest to stay out and wait for the northern lights.
Hot drinks and snacks provided. Also 2 living rooms in the house with cozy sofas and lots of interesting books to look at so guests do not have to wait in the cold.

Day Two AM:
Fall training run with the dogs. No snow yet to pull a sled so the dogs will pull a ATV. Up to 12 dogs on one ATV , educational part of how to harness and bootie the dogs, Approx. 1 hour on the ATV, after a walk with dogs to the shore of the Takhini River
Lunch at the Lodge

Afternoon:
Trip to the Wildlife preserve and the Hotsprings. One of our guides will take you to see a variety of species that call Yukon thier home before you soak in the warm and relaxing water at the Takhini Hot pools

Night two:
Another night to watch for the skies to light up with the northern lights. Use our tripods provided to get the perfect shot

Day three am:
Time to catch up on some sleep. Pm: 3 hour canoe trip on the Takhini River (two hours on water) amazing fall colours along the river, and the chance to see wildlife. Beavers call the Takhini River their home and you will be able to see their houses and dams along the way

Night Three:
Last night to stay up and enjoy the comfort of the lodge.

Day Four:  Departure day
Drop of at the airport or at a hotel in town, depending on guest arrangements.

Begin with pick you up at your hotel and depart on the tour. After a short drive, leave the vehicle parked by the lake shore and walk the short distance to the first spot. With the help of an ice-auger, you'll drill a hole in the ice. The ice on a lake can be from 30 cm to 1 m thick! Hot drinks will be available to keep you toasty. Take a look around and enjoy the beauty of a winter’s day while waiting for the big catch!

If you're lucky and catch a nice trout your guide will fillet it and cook it on the fire. At the end of the day, return to Whitehorse with a record catch of great memories.
